FarmVector is a farm-records app. This page describes what the app actually does today, in plain language.
Where your data lives
- Not signed in (demo or device-only use): farm records, tasks, readings, notes and map pins stay only on this device and are not sent to us. The only exceptions are a pilot sign-up form you choose to submit, and weather lookups for your farm's ZIP or city (see Weather below).
- Signed in (Apple, Google or email link/code): we store your email, your name if your sign-in provider shares it, and your farm's records so you can recover them on another device. Only people on that farm can read them. Records also stay on the device so the app works offline.
- Team sharing (FarmVector Plus): a farm owner can invite teammates by email. We store the invited email, the role, and the invitation's status and expiry; the invite link itself is stored only in scrambled form. Teammates who join see that farm's records according to their role (workers and students don't see expenses), and the app records which account created or last changed each record and who completed a task. Team data is shared only with the people on that farm — never sold or shown to anyone else. Removing a teammate ends their access, but the records they made stay in the farm's history.
- Photos stay on the device in compressed form and are not uploaded by the current app — even when signed in.
- Feedback you write in the app stays on the device unless you send it to us yourself.
- Suggestions you send while signed in (text, area, your contact choice, app version and — only if you say Yes to contact — your account email) are stored on our servers, read only by FarmVector admins and never shared or sold. No farm records or screenshots are attached.
- Account data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- We do not sell, rent or share your farm records. We do not show ads and do not use third-party analytics or tracking inside the app.
- Without an account we cannot recover your data if the device is lost, reset or the app is deleted. Use Back up / Export my farm data regularly.
Weather
- For a real farm, the Weather page shows a live forecast based on your farm's ZIP code or city, or a weather location you choose yourself.
- To do this, the app sends your ZIP or city (or approximate coordinates) to two free public services: Zippopotam.us (turns a ZIP into a place) and Open-Meteo (provides the forecast). No account or personal details are sent to them.
- For weather alerts, the farm's approximate coordinates are passed through our server to the U.S. National Weather Service (weather.gov), and the farm's state code to FEMA (disaster declarations). No name, email or farm records are sent.
- Your last forecast is kept on the device so it still shows offline, labeled as cached.
- Demo sensors and the Demo Farm's weather are simulated and labeled as such.
Device features (only when you ask)
- Camera — scanning QR codes/barcodes and taking photos for notes. Photos are kept on the device. If you tap Identify with AI or the AI photo check in Plant Coach, a smaller copy of that one photo is sent through our server to an AI image service to suggest what to check; the result is not saved unless you save it, and the photo itself stays on your device.
- Microphone / speech — dictating notes when you tap the mic. FarmVector does not record or keep audio, but your device or browser's speech service may process the audio to turn it into text.
- Location — pinning a note or place on your farm map when you tap it. Exact GPS coordinates are saved only in that record: on the device when you're not signed in, or in your account copy when you are.
- Files — exports, backups and imports happen only when you choose them. You decide where exported files go.
Denying any permission never blocks normal record keeping; typed entry always works.
Services we use
- Lovable Cloud (Supabase) — hosts the app, handles sign-in, and stores your account and synced farm copy.
- Google and Apple — sign-in providers, only if you choose "Continue with Google" or "Continue with Apple". They share your email (and name, if you allow it) with us to create your account.
- Open-Meteo and Zippopotam.us — free weather and ZIP-lookup services, used only for the Weather page as described above.
- National Weather Service, FEMA, FDA (openFDA), USDA FSIS and USDA AMS Market News — official government sources for weather alerts, disaster declarations, recalls and market reports. Only approximate farm coordinates (NWS) and state (FEMA) are sent; recall and market lookups send no personal or farm data. Watch interests, market watchlist and your own buyer quotes stay on your device.
- AI image analysis (Lovable AI) — used only when you tap Identify with AI or the AI photo check in Plant Coach, as described above. Requires sign-in.
- Resend — sends team invitation emails to the address a farm owner enters. Only the invite email, farm name, inviter name and invite link are sent.
- Google Fonts — the web version loads fonts from Google's servers so text displays correctly.
Pilot sign-ups
The pilot interest form sends your name, farm/business, email, optional phone, operation types, size and comments to FarmVector (kept on the device until there is a connection). They are used only to follow up about the pilot. A pilot sign-up is separate from a FarmVector account: deleting your account does not remove a pilot sign-up, but you can ask us to remove it — see Account & data deletion.
Children
The app is designed for farm operators, schools and educators. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
