Back Pond: Dissolved oxygen low (4.1 mg/L)
Action neededNow: 4.1 mg/L · target ≥ 5 mg/L
Compared with a generic starting range for warm-water fish — not a universal rule. Set your own targets in Aquaculture.
Why it matters
Fish stress and can die when dissolved oxygen gets too low. Oxygen is lowest around dawn, in hot weather, on cloudy days and after an algae die-off.
What to check next
- Re-test now, near the surface and near the bottom.
- Check aerators, blowers, air stones and power.
- Watch fish: gulping at the surface or crowding near inflows means act now.
- Note water temperature (84.5°F) — warm water holds less oxygen.
- Look for a sudden water colour change or algae die-off.
Do now
- Run or add aeration now.
- Stop feeding until oxygen recovers.
- Remove dead fish promptly.
- Avoid handling, moving or harvesting fish.
- Add fresh water only if the source is known to be suitable and oxygenated.
Follow up: Recheck oxygen in 1–2 hours, and at dawn.
Get expert help: If oxygen stays below 3 mg/L or fish are dying, treat it as an emergency and contact your state aquaculture extension specialist or an aquatic veterinarian.

Status uses your own target ranges where you set them, otherwise generic starting ranges — not universal rules. FarmVector never gives chemical doses, fertilizer or pesticide rates. Set targets in Aquaculture; manage schedules in Fertility & Nutrients.
